SMART Team
There are many teams and clubs at Messmer. There is the football team, basketball team and a track team, among others. On particular team, however, doesn’t have any physical requirements. The participants need to have strong minds, analytical prowess, and great communication skills. The Messmer SMART team has people who fulfill those requirements with great class and poise. They use their creativity and thinking skills to put together a protein model. There are many things that are important in order for the team to succeed. Team leader and Science Teacher Ms. Carol Johnson said her job is “to motivate and encourage” the participants and to make sure they understand the material so that they may apply it. She also said that the goal for the moment is to complete the protein model. The SMART team has made progress so far as a unit and continue to push forward toward their goal.
Senior David Gonzalez said one thing that is difficult about being on the team is “meeting all of the deadlines.” With so much work this year, he enjoys the opportunity to “learn things that college students learn and being able to explain that to people.” They all have been working very hard so far and plan on getting to the top in future projects.
