Love and Basketball

On Tuesday, February 14th the Messmer Bishops Boy's Varsity Basketball team was in action against Wayland Academy. Since it was also Valentine’s Day, the players brought added fashion to the game. They showed off personally made heart socks, created by Senior guard AJ Anderson, who scored 11 points, racked up 6 rebounds, as well as 5 assists in the victory on Valentine’s day. The fun idea for the socks came from a couple of the players who were aware of AJ’s artistic abilities.
AJ’s design included purple stripes on the back, and pink, white, red, and purple hearts on the side of the socks. With all the hearts, flowers, stuffed animals, and candy in the school Tuesday, there was lots of love in the air. The Bishops spread their love to each other on the court, racking up a season high 25 assists, which lead them to a striking 72-49 victory. The Messmer Varsity team is currently rated 6th in the state with a record of 16-3.
The team will be in an action this weekend facing a rival from down the street, The Hope School; only 1 mile separates the two making for a good match-up. Saturday's game is Hope’s "Pack the Gym for Breast Cancer" so come out and support the cause and the team. The Bishops will be closing its season with two home games next week against Brookfield Academy and University School. February 24th is senior night against University School.

Reptiles in the House

2.10.12. Messmer High was invaded by reptiles yesterday to the delight of students and staff. Science Teacher Elizabeth Pritchard arranged for the visit from "Jim Nesci's Cold Blooded Creatures" traveling educational experience. Senior Denzel Taylor said, "It was cool, and I left without any injuries which was a plus. Seeing the huge alligator walk down the carpet was the best part." Mr. Nesci brought a big tortoise, 2 pythons, 2 alligators, and a komodo dragon also known as a monitor lizard. In addition to appearing at schools and community events, Mr. Nesci has appeared on numerous television shows. Here is a link to a video of some of his most memorable appearances: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgqkumvcGR4.See slide show at right for more pictures of the creatures at Messmer.
